Almost daily, social media continues to creep a little further into our lives. You wake up, eyes barely open and reach over for your iPhone, searching blindly for the power button to turn on a digital world of Twitter and Facebook. With one leg out of bed, the other holding on to the sweet sweet comfort of rest, you look to see what messages and new “followers” or “likes” you’ve received throughout the night.
Once all social media checks are complete, you are now ready to start your day.
Increasingly dependent on having constant access to the larger world via social media, we’ve begun to evolve into a culture of anti-social social butterflies. I know, it’s an oxymoron, but that’s the reality of our culture. Many folks may lack the ability to hold a face-to-face ten-minute conversation, but can type the equivalent of a telenovela episode in half that time on their iPhone.
The reality is that our world has changed dramatically, and social media is here to stay (and likely to become an even larger part of our lives).
