Attention to all you raw foodies out there. Now, you can get your raw milk fix straight from a vending machine. Self-service raw milk vending machines are all the rage in Europe right now, with countries like Italy, France, Austria, Croatia, the Netherlands, and Switzerland filling their bottles with the nutrient-packed milk. Even better? Many of the vending machines are open 24-hours, so you can get your fix any time of the day.
Although many of us are getting jealous right now over the thought of walking down a city street and getting raw milk straight from the cow – oops, dispenser – it’s not all creamy. Health organizations are voicing concerns that vending unpasteurized milk can be a health risk. While it’s true that raw milk requires special conditions to keep it safe, many of these dispensers use UV-lights to sterilize the milk and monitoring devices to make sure conditions don’t become unstable (and therefore unsafe for consumers).
The new raw-milk trend may be getting mixed opinions, but all we know is it’s making us thirsty!
ABOUT THE WRITER
Aimee Millwood is a writer with wanderlust who currently lives in Hanoi, Vietnam. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she received her BA in Literature with an emphasis in creative writing.
