In a Historically Male-Dominated Field, Women are Finally Taking On the Tech Industry

Rise of Women in Tech Infographic

It seems strange that in 2012, 92 years after we were granted the right to vote, that I’m writing about the rise of women in a field that has been dominated by men since the first electronic digital computers were developed in the early 1940s. Seventy-two years later, women are finally grabbing their stake in one of the most lucrative and innovative corporate industries.

But the good news is that we’re not just making strides, we’re actually kicking ass when given the chance to get our hands dirty. Women are more active social media users and gamers than men; many are starting tech companies with less funding than men, yet their companies have higher revenues; and the number of women majoring in computer science at one of the best universities in the world has been rising steadily since 2011.

Things seems to be looking up, or maybe in this case lighting up, and thanks to Emma Brown, creator of this nifty infographic about women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) you can see many of these advancements packaged in an easy-to-read, visually stimulating image…
