This Origami-Inspired Self-Irrigating Planter May be the Coolest Urban Garden Kit Yet

With the sale of vegetable seeds surpassing that of flowers for the first time since the 1940’s it’s clear that more people are looking to producing their own food. The Patch Planter takes the guesswork out of the equation by providing the plant with the exact amount of water it needs, making care a cinch. The origami-inspired design comes flat-packed, and is fully recyclable, washable and stain resistant. There are no pumps or plugs; it just needs water and sunlight to produce fresh herbs and greens of your choice.

Vancouver based Let’s Patch founder and CEO, Kent Houston, developed the planters to help people reconnect with food. By making this process as easy as possible he hopes that more people will be encouraged to join the “grow your own” movement.

“With Kickstarter we can bypass investors, get real metrics about our market and showcase the forward-thinking innovation behind our self-watering Patch Planters,” says Houston. “We need to go from beta to mega make this game- changing method of growing food a reality and make a positive impact on communities around the world.”

Let’s Patch is currently crowd funding using the Kickstarter platform to formally launch the planters with a goal of raising $50,000 by Friday June 14, 2013.
