Cubans in need of medical attention are in good hands thanks to the universal health care system, but doctors’ needs aren’t being satisfied. With low salaries and unpaid overtime, more physicians are fleeing Cuba for better benefits and conditions.

HAVANA “” Sheila González walks under a scalding sun, surrounded by dilapidated buildings. Seven months pregnant, the mother-to-be lives in a poor downtown neighborhood in the Cuban capital.
