Why Do We Need to Travel?

Taking the weekend off makes the week to come just a bit lighter. A forty-minute drive — music on — heading to the beach and working on a suntan, drinking caipirinha, playing with little cousins, eating ice cream by sunset, drinking wine with your lover watching the stars and feeling the wind… Why can’t we do it more often?

Traveling is not necessarily going somewhere far away. (Not necessarily heading to the beach either, that was just my case this weekend and an example of possibilities.) Traveling can be getting to know other parts of your own town or city –a museum, park, lake, mountain — that you’ve never explored before. Usually we are strangers in our own cities. We get attached to the places we go daily and don’t look much further.

Going to unknown places gives our mind a new map of experiences. We change the way we see and the way we look at things. We get to smell, touch and taste new things. We step in different places that out feet never walked before. Our entire being is immersed into a new experience that will change us, even little changes that we don’t necessarily notice quickly…

Traveling is a basic need simply because standing still will not make you move forward in life. Traveling is a need because we learn. We take things deeply within. We build memories. We change places. We meet people. We meet a different side of ourselves.

Challenge yourself!
