As of late, Upworthy has been promoting a special series that talks about saving The Great Barrier Reef—- in case you didn’t know, it’s expected to be completely gone by 2050. The video is a fictional story projected into the future, after coral reefs and the organisms that thrive off of them, have been wiped out of the ocean. It becomes most alarming when the young child who’s narrating says, “It took 240 million years for reef-forming corals to evolve and yet we helped destroy them in a comparative heartbeat.” This video delves into just how serious this problem is, and why we need to help prevent it before our ecosystems are devastated.
