In this TedTalk, Rachel Sussman an artist and photographer, discusses the data she’s collected from an ongoing project that seeks to identify some of the oldest living things on Earth — from 2,000-year-old brain coral off Tobago’s coast to an “underground forest” in South Africa that has lived since before the dawn of agriculture.
She hopes that her work will spread awareness on nature’s delicate balance and the ecosystems that have thrived since ancient times. Many of the organisms she’s studied are now in jeopardy due to human encroachment and climate change. Her goal is to play a part in ensuring these organisms’ continued longevity into the foreseeable future.
